
Karamat has had an interest in and commitment to equality and diversity from a very young age. Early on in his adult life, he worked in community development in a multi-cultural environment where he pioneered race and equal opportunities awareness training for professionals.
After working in secondary education and community relations, Karamat spent a significant amount of time in a community college which was seen as a leader in equality and diversity. Here in his role as Deputy Director of Equality Rights and Opportunities Management Unit, he made a significant contribution to policy development, management and training in a range of diversity strands.
As an Equality and Diversity Consultant, Karamat has worked with a range of organisations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, both through The Forward Partnership and as a Senior Consultant with Schneider Ross. This has included:Department for Education and Skills, Cabinet Office, Commission for Racial Equality, British Gas, British Airports Authority, Royal Mail, YMCA and Princes Trust. His most recent work included the ground breaking report on educational underachievement of poor White pupils. This was commissioned by the Learning and Skills Council
He is also employed as an Adviser (Workforce Reform) for a large urban Local Authority. In this role his responsibilities include Work/Life Balance of school leaders, Performance Development amongst the school workforce and consultation with trades unions at a strategic level.
Karamat writes an occasional article for a newspaper and contributes regularly for the e-Newsletter of Birmingham Professional Divercity. He is also actively involved in voluntary work in a number of organisations.
Karamat’s qualifications include Bachelor of Education, Masters in Social
Sciences (Race and Education) and Certificates in Management, Theology and Specialist Paralegal Studies (Employment Law).
